We have been very impressed with the Yoga YGM-120 large format microphone, which
sadly, is now out of production until the new model is released - and while we were
sourcing USB microphones for another project, we found these Podcast models. The
same chassis and capsule, but with USB output instead of XLR. What we have as a result
is a very high quality condenser microphone that can be connected to any USB2 equipped
computer. Windows XP and Vista treat the microphone as an external analogue to digital
converter, and you can record straight into your editor or recording package. Ideal
for things like preparing podcasts, or even carrying out recordings on location with
minimal equipment, it’s such an excellent idea. The internal A/D conversion produces
excellent results and it means less equipment to carry around. The same isolation
mount provided with the YGM-120 is supplied so you can be confident that the microphone
will be less prone to thumps and bumps through the heavy cast stand that is also
supplied with this microphone. It is a complete podcast system with microphone, stand
and USB cable.
USB microphones can be a simple and convenient solution to simple recording sessions,
without the complication of external mixers and processing that are over-kill when
dealing with just a single microphone. The output level control is provided on the
front face of the microphone.
