This is an amazing microphone, made in small batches by the factory. We bought the
first 4 available, we're keeping two for ourselves, but are making the remaining
two available to our customers.
We have been impressed with this microphone - most condensers from the far east have
very accurate, almost clinical sound. The products with the high price tickets typically
from Germany, often have different personalities - often being described as warm,
or having character. This Chinese microphone has that warmth. The audio sample has
been recorded as usual with no processing of any kind - in this case, not even normalisation!
Compare it with the sound of our other large diaphragm microphones - it's very different.
The basic concept is that the microphone connects to your recording equipment with
a simple USB cable. Nothing new there, but this mic has very high quality analogue
to digital conversion, and can also have a pair of headphones connected to allow
sound back to the mic from your recording equipment if it supports it. I've tested
this with Cubase 5 - it works rather well.
It's a heavy microphone and is very attractive - the champagne coloured grill and
red/maroon body shell - very distinctive. If you want to record vocals or narration
this could be an ideal microphone, but as you will hear, it performs rather well
on instruments too. We wish we could get more of these, but the lead time is currently
around two months. The factory are very helpful - we had these made with the champagne
coloured grill, because the original shiny gold finish looked far too bright. We
will order some more if people like them.
