The audio section contains a number of specially selected microphones that will be
very useful for live sound and recording enthusiasts who want very high quality from
products that satisfy a more modest budget.
There are some really excellent products available nowadays from manufacturers such
as Neumann, AKG, Sennheiser, Shure, Rode and many others. The real snag is simply
price! Most of these brands have flagship products well into the thousands of pounds
bracket. They also have more basic models, perhaps with cut-down facilities, or a
slightly lower specification. However, they are still expensive, and what you have
is a brand name, bottom of range product.
For our own use, we wanted an alternative, and we started to explore products made
in the Far East, as after some research, we discover many ‘Brand Name’ products are
actually made there, with the ‘Brand Name’ badge.
We started to source samples of microphones from these factories, and after reviewing
them, imported the best for sale here in the UK. The only down-side of buying from
these factories is time-scale and freighting. Running out of stock could easily take
2 months to recover. Other than this, we’ve found the service we get from these factories
to be extremely good, and the result is a range of useful and economic microphones
that can be used for recording or live sound use.

Before we started selling imported products, we did a comparison between products
we had in our inventory, and being realistic, the price very often had nothing at
all to do with what they sounded like. As a result of this, we started our search
for products that sounded good, but didn’t have the price ticket of the ‘Industry
Favourites”.
